Key Switches #67

Please add Keyed / Locking Switches to ELN2.

i'm talking about those weird switches you see in movie theaters, schools, public buildings etc to protect lighting from being turned on or off by unauthorized persons.

If ELN2 fixes problems with running the mod on a minecraft server. These could be very useful for griefer protecting things you would not want switched on or off by someone who comes on the server like in real life for controlling who can control lights etc in schools and public buildings.

A idea i had would be something in the config that would be a white list that limits which minecraft players by minecraft user name on a server could spawn and get locking switch keys (the key wouldn't show up in creative mode or crafting on a server for you if you were not on the white list).

you should model the switch and key after Pass and Seymour's locking switch since it would be the easiest. Images of Switch and key

I also have suggestions for two more type of locking switches to add to this list later which are a combination lock keypad type switch and a genetic fingerprint type switch

Heh, these things. If we permit locking blocks I'll add em. But it's pointless without locked cables and such, so probably later.

@jrddunbr

the other two types of switches i was talking to add with this one are

A keypad type locking switch that shuffles around the numbers on the keypad every time you access it and can have any 4 digit combination set and only turns on or off it's load when the correct combination is entered.

A genetic finger print type switch that only reacts and turns on or off it's load when the player who entered their fingerprint (ID determined by minecraft username) on it matches the correct one entered into it the first time it was set up.

good luck with the second one :)

You don't need to ping anyone, we read these.

None of these are particularly difficult, I think that it's literally more work for the modelers than it is for me to write code for.

genestrashcan commented 4 years ago

i will model the switch and key in blender for you some day soon here...

jrddunbr commented 4 years ago

... as a side thought, I don't think I'd ever want to use that switch pictured - I've been taught not to insert metal objects into electrical devices :D

genestrashcan commented 4 years ago

I have put those keys into those PS20AC1-L switches thousands of times, never been shocked once. the switch is designed with safety in mind. 💯

Shears and Toaster trimming is a whole nother story.

This would likely integrate with Security Age, and perhaps it should be part of that mod once we get around to it.
