Yes, I already thought about using pdfjs to display at least pdf content. It is also possible to define a custom pdf rendition for other content types, but il would require additional server setup to work, now I use only out of the box Alfresco features.

A basic framework and a couple of examples (pdf, and text) are implemented. If there are specific libraries that can be used, I think it's better to open specific issues
