Initial extension from hackathon #1

Awesome, good to hear! I'll merge it in.

Once merged (hackathon->main), should we start a new branch for documentation so that can also have a separate PR to the next part of the extension focusing on NIRS modalities? I.e. we'd have two new branches e.g. documentation & nirs_modality_support.

Yes, I think so. All future work we can plan to put on separate branches and follow a PR strategy.
