Humming sound using Agg NES core when docked with Analogue Pocket #36

Open 666TonyDanza666 opened 9 months ago

Version (or build number)

Current

Steps to reproduce

Hi, I purchased an Analogue dock for my gitd pocket and set it up with various cores. I noticed that there’s a humming sound coming out of my tv whenever I use the agg nes core. This doesn’t happen with the cartridge or other cores (PC engine, snes, genesis, sega master etc.) Also, this is happening when I was plugging in my 8bit Do send Bluetooth controller.

Expected Behavior

No humming sound ha

Actual Behavior

Humming sound coming from tv. It stops if I use a different core or go to the pocket menu

Additional Context

No response

Is the humming specifically when you connect a Bluetooth controller, or is it always present?

Does the humming get louder/softer if you change the volume?

I need to use the controller to start the core while it’s in docked mode but if I unplug it after the humming sound continues. It changes with the tv volume but is still presentOn Oct 1, 2023, at 9:56 PM, Adam Gastineau @.***> wrote: Is the humming specifically when you connect a Bluetooth controller, or is it always present? I got a chance to try this out today. Unfortunately my capture card cannot capture audio (at least without a lot of work), so we'll have to go with my jury-rigged playing setup. This does pass the audio through a ground loop noise isolator, which theoretically could be dropping noise.

In any case, I was unable to hear any noise, or any difference with the core on or off. I tested this with the intro to SMB3 (which is silent), but that's that case with many other NES games as well. I recorded what my computer was receiving in Audacity, and the waveform is completely flat.

Since this is the case, we need to figure out what is different in your setup vs mine. I suspect this problem is not being experienced by most users, given that no one else has complained yet.

Ok, I have a Switch and a Steam deck docked to my TV that don’t have this issue. Also the TV model is an LG oled47cxpubI have the Analogue dock on an hdmi splitter with my steam deck. The splitter was a new purchase so I thought maybe that was causing it but when I plugged the Analogue dock directly to the TV’s hdmi it was still happening. I’m stumped..Mike

Could you make an audio recording of it? Is the Dock connected directly to the TV, or is it going through a receiver?

666TonyDanza666 commented 9 months ago

It’s connected directly to the tv. Here’s an audio: On Oct 4, 2023, at 10:23 AM, Adam Gastineau @.***> wrote: Could you make an audio recording of it? Is the Dock connected directly to the TV, or is it going through a receiver?

You're going to have to visit the Github issue on the website and upload the audio there. It appears Github will not let you add attachments via email.

Here is the audio @agg23

Still nothing. Drag the file onto the text box. It will show a link if it worked

I couldn’t figure out how to add an audio attachment but I took a video and attached it on GitHub but I can’t see if it went throughOn Oct 4, 2023, at 10:34 AM, Adam Gastineau @.***> wrote: You're going to have to visit the Github issue on the website and upload the audio there. Agg Core Hum.MOV.zip

agg23 commented 9 months ago

That is extremely weird, and way more audible than I was expecting. There's also a very noticeable pop at the start.

Have you tried older versions of the core? I did just update a lot of the audio system, but it should have prevented this sort of issue, not caused it.

I haven’t tried older issues of the core. It doesn’t make the noise in handheld modeOn Oct 4, 2023, at 11:17 AM, Adam Gastineau @.***> wrote: That is extremely weird, and way more audible than I was expecting.
