Thanks! Sorry for doing this but it so happens that I got another pull request this morning that included a gitignore and also autoconf + VS build files, so I picked that one. However, hopefully autoconf is a solid basis for fixing the linking issues that you were having. I suspect that the autoconf scripts aren't quite right (they are detected libtiff etc, but that doesn't mean that leptonica was built with libtiff), but let me know how they work for you.
