Boundaries - County Boundary Maps #123

Open nathankota opened 1 year ago

nathankota commented 1 year ago

Sean met with the County Surveyors September 2024 and they agreed that these maps are valuable especially for the original county descriptions. UGRC should contact each county for make sure all boundary updates are displayed on the maps. There may be a better way to maintain these updates. Need to meet with the LT Governors Office to collaborate on the best solution. Storymap or something else to display the county boundaries, names, (description?). Currently in pdf format

Not sure what is going on with this. Back in 2010 we started creating County Maps with the country boundary description included on the map surround. We have updated these for the few county boundary changes over time, but the actual maps are dated. I has been on my 'Things to do list' for a while. The current upgrade to the Lt. Gov. Website has no link to the maps, so I am not sure if its needed or who to ask. The last contact I work with on Annexations had no idea what I was talking about. Old link https://municert.utah.gov - County Boundaries links on the right side. CountyBoundaryMap_Sample

Sprint 2 Task

mheagin commented 1 year ago

Talked with Mallory Underwood (Office Administrator) , sent her info on why it was started. Her response was: "It looks like 17-50-104 hasn't changed since 2009, so I think it would be safe to assume that we should update the maps on the website. I believe that we are still using that website for county, city and town classifications. I'm not sure why the municert website wouldn't be linked on the Lt. Governor website, but I will have to check with Jackson Murphy on adding a link."

Would using a print service and the online web maps that you maintain changes for provide a good solution?

mheagin commented 1 year ago

That is part of what needs to be figured out. Do they need a downloadable map or could be use a Story Map, to show the map and have the details available without the need for a printable version.

Identified the requirements from the state code. Like most of the state code a little vague. I wrote up some notes and those can be found here County Boundary Maps

@mheagin it sounds like we would be offering to do something for Lt. Gov's Office that isn't necessarily required by state code? Is a possible next step to mock up one county boundary and description in a StoryMap as a show-and-tell and conversation starter with Lt. Gov's?

@nathankota sorry to be a bother, but I tried to add this Boundary project to Sprint 5, but looks like I did something wrong. It does not link to this project it does not have any of the already entered information in it. When you get a minute can you point me in the right direction? Thanks

Sprint 5

nathankota commented 1 year ago

@mheagin Please enter some closing notes and close this Q1 task down. It seems like we need another Q2 task to continue this? Is Denise taking this on?

mheagin commented 1 year ago

On hold, waiting to hear back from Lt Gov Office on their requirements. Created a story map that will show the county boundaries and have that description available for download. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/1aa1647929bb4c3a9f599c0c194e1bb0/edit. Next is to sit down with all parties (Lt. Office, Sean) and see if this will meet the requirements for them.

use storymap or other form of dynamic map as a replacement
