Aim: simulating shaded areas cast by the buildings, vary with time.

Step 01 extract data from gis buildings

Step 02 generate shadow from shaded sides

The shaded area can then contribute to simulation for green space & bio-diversity

Biodiversity is affected by shadow which is derived from the positioning of the sun

Concept- In shadows deep, where sunlight fears to tread, People starve for light, and plants wither, dead. Darkness breeds a fearful, lawless hive, Where crime and parasites in shadows thrive.

Shadows are represented as a shape file that can be found here *attach the source for the shape files

Building geometry moving from East to West (simple) to step 3 Building Geometry has a static shadow which is always present Building geometry is scaled based on height proponent (height * cot (altitude degree angle)

GAMA simulation with affecting biodiversity-

The birds, bees, bats and foxes gets safety in these shaded areas and are attracted The human agents repel from the shaded areas The plant grows and dies in these shaded areas

GAMA simulation vignette scale- the proportion of all the above factors change which either improves the biodiversity or makes it worse
