The command list says to put SMS before the contact if you want to SMS them. It
also says just contact will search for a person. I can't get either to work.

All of my contacts are google apps contacts which are synced using the native
android gmail auto-sync options.

I have the same problem, if I type 'contact:John Smith' I get a 'No match for
"John Smith"', that is a user on my contacts synchronized with the google
account also using the native anrdoid auto-sync options.

I'm using Android Version 2.1.1 FLB-mod 1.0.

ps: I can send an SMS command directly to the phone number, but not to the
defined contact name (don't know if this helps). TIA.
