Rename project #194

As noted in #189 and proved by #118, the name of this project gives way to confusion since there is another popular project, namely multibootusb, with an identical name.

When I first created this repository in February 2015 from my own gist, multibootusb was just a common name for a project of this type and was mostly stolen from the relevant ArchWiki's page.

Nowadays however, the project consists mostly of generic GRUB scripts that boot specific ISO/image/kernel files, and I think the name of the project should reflect that.

Therefore, if anybody has any suggestion, please feel free to share them so we can come up with something good enough.

polygrub? poly-iso? Both are not yet used (no repos on Github, no results on Google) except for polyiso.org which seems not to be programming related.

ZeTriUm commented 6 years ago

Bofi (Boot OS from image), Fi2O / Fi2OS / Img2OS (From image to OS)

petsam commented 6 years ago

Another one from me: AI-boot (aiboot)=Auto ISO Boot which also refers-reminds Artificial(ly) Intelligence(nt) Boot. I hold no patents. ;)

aguslr commented 6 years ago

Thanks for the suggestions. I kinda like the ones @ZeTriUm has suggested. Although I like the idea of keeping grub in the name, like the one @C-Bouthoorn provided.

What do you think?

Cxarli commented 6 years ago

Multigrubloader or MGL for short, which has some meanings with only one related to programming, but not to bootloaders. No repos are currently named that way

Multigrubboot (MGB) is also free, but has no programming-related meanings

And one that looks like those from @ZeTriUm: ISO2OS

aguslr commented 5 years ago

Ok, what about GRUB2ISO or GRUB2IMG (abbreviated as G2ISO/G2IMG or simply g2i)?

There doesn't seem to be many matches for either of them. Neither are the domains taken. Also, it clearly states that the project consists of GRUB 2 scripts used to boot into ISO images.

ZeTriUm commented 5 years ago

I think it is not good idea, because grub 2 already include boot iso tool and this name maybe make confusion.

aguslr commented 5 years ago

What boot iso tool does GRUB2 include? It's true that it may confuse people since this project is not really a fork of GRUB2 but a collection of GRUB scripts.

ZeTriUm commented 5 years ago

I mean the built-in means. Some people can think that GRUB2 can't load ISO/img because this project exists. And yeap who knows GRUB2 can think of this project as about fork of GRUB2.

aguslr commented 5 years ago

Yes, I see your point. Maybe just G2ISO or G2IMG then?

In an attempt to help deciding, let me say:

Good lack choosing!! ;)

How does EveryBoot sound?

Here's my proposal: Aguboot.

Malsasa commented 4 years ago

Agusb. Aguslr Universal USB. This is my proposal. Thanks for making the most widely compatible GNU/Linux multiboot maker.
