thanks for the response! But.....
i do not have advanced settings, only settings and there is no sub category
under settings for advanced settings. and i can't find anywhere else to
disable read number. The issue is it says "9016" only after the person
leaves a voice mail message. it does not say that number when a text is
sent.
Chomp also does not say the name "dina" right anymore. can't say when that
started happeneing...

thank you. i did update. but it i undo the say number, if there caller is
not in my phone book it won't say the telephone number of the caller right?
so there is a trade off.

after your email i updated my phone and found the advanced settings category
and turned off say number. but as i said in my last email, if i turn that
off and it stops saying "9016" after a voice mail is left, won't it also
stop saying the telephone number of the caller if the name is not in my
phone book?

i just updated the software and it says more number and NO name now. i have
searched the settings and can't find anywhere else to check to fix issue.
had noproblem with names until i downloaded the most recent update in my
evo. so now i have no name and it still says "9016" after a message is left
and it says a whole bunch more about sprint and a message left etc. only
want the name or number if not in phone book.
