+1, says unknown on K9 email notifications after upgrade.

Maybe it doesn't announce K9-Mails because the sender's address isn't saved in
your addressbook?
Little workaround: Activate "Read number" in Advanced Settings.
Thanks

No news?

Still reads email address and not name when not in address book, even with read
number turned on.

I don't plan to bring that feature back, sorry.
However, you can find an old version of SayMyName here:
http://code.google.com/p/roadtoadc/downloads/detail?name=SayMyName_Dessert_2.2.6
.apk
Sorry

So are you saying K-9 mail is no longer supported? If so, why is that? Did
something change with K9? I originally switched to K9 because you didn't have
to enter your email address. If you are removing this support, might want to
update the description so it doesn't say you support it.

No no, I fear you got me wrong. I still support K9. BUT: since the last update
SayMyName only reads names if you've saved the address in your addressbok. So,
if you want to hear names again you have to save the addresses in your
addressbook.
If that's too much work for you (Gmail seems to save addresses automatically in
your addressbook) you can either activate "Read number" in advanced settings,
or you install an old version of SayMyName.
Sorry

Tom, can you please tell us which old version still had that feature?

Never mind, found the link above, sorry!

So just to be clear, when I get an email through K9 and it says it as unknown,
if I save that address in the address book, it will say the name next time?
Also, this is really a different topic, but does the program support multiple
gmail accounts?
Original comment by edlbos...@gmail.com

Yep, it should say the name then. If not, contact me.
It doesn't support multiple Gmail accounts at the moment, but I think I can add
that feature as soon as I have enough time.

Just installed the latest version and wanted to thank you for the multiple
gmail account support. However, I am still at a lost as to why the option to
read the name included in the email header was removed? I receive several
messages a day from some systems I monitor and they use a unique email address
to allow a response to the message so the system knows where to send the reply
to. Until this change to say the name from the contact list only, they were
announced using the name in the header. Because the email address is random and
unique each message, adding then to the address book is not possible. For me,
you took a very important feature out that was working fine and made the
program less useful. While I still can use the older version of the program, I
would like to ask you to please reconsider this feature and return it. Maybe
have it as an option that can be enable for those that need it.

I just realized that there was a bug. SayMyName didn't announce any K9Mails
correctly. No matter if the sender's address is saved or not.
However, I think I fixed all problems in this version:
http://code.google.com/p/roadtoadc/downloads/detail?name=SayMyName_2.4.3.apk
Please report back as soon as possible.
Thank you

It is still saying unknown for emails that are not in the contacts. What should
the setting be to get it to read from the email header?

Oh, sorry! I forgot to mention that you have to enable "Read number" Advanced
Settings.

Selecting read number worked, but instead off reading the 'from' field in the
header, it read the user name part of the email address. The way I am thinking
it should work is if there is a contact entry, read that name. If no contact,
read the 'from' field in the email header and then the email address if none of
the other info is available.

Are you sure? :/
One more try:

Please report any problems as soon as possible! I want to release this update
tomorrow.
Thank you

Pretty sure. I look at the headers in K9 and it shows both a friendly from name
and an email address and it reads the email. Will give this new version a try.

Still reading the email. Maybe the headers being used are different from' what
you are getting. I an testing it by sending an email from gmail for testing. I
don't have that gmail address in my contact list. I could send you a message
from that account so you can see the headers, but you could probably do the
same thing if you make your own non-contact gmail account.

Okay. It is reading the correct field now. Now this could be a problem with
the TTS on the android, but it sounds like, based on what I hear it saying, it
is only using the first 16 characters. For example, the last word in one of
the title is Greeter, but the 't' is the 16th letter so it only says 'Greet'
when announcing the email.

today...
Thanks for your help

This is something real. In the older version I was using (2.2.6), the full name
was completely spoken. Now, it seems the last couple letters are not included
when speaking. What I'm not sure about is where the problem lies exactly. I
will see about going back to the older version to see if the problem goes aways.

Just a follow up on this. It is sounding like it is losing the last letter of
the name when saying it. I have installed the older version to see if it is
showing the same issue.
Original comment by Ed.and.S...@gmail.com

Okay. I have verified that the latest version is drooping the last character
when saying the name. This problem is not present in the older version. Some
of the messages end with a unit number. It says the unity name but not the
number. The name is also being said a little strange. For example, one system
is named boulder 3 but all that I hear is 'scoulder' with no number.

I am also using the read to special character and using the '@' as the
delimiter.

I've posted a new version in issue 93. Try it and tell me if it works.
If you're not happy with SayMyName's pronounciation use "Replace Chooser" in
Advanced Settings.

I think the pronunciation problem is from the last character being missing is
all. Will try the new version out. Thanks.
