What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In browser URL bar swipe keyboard to reveal alternate characters
2. Enter character e.g. '*' and observe suggestions from Google instant
3. Swipe keyboard again and observe that '*' is replaced by the Google instant
suggestion

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the character I entered to persist, instead it is replaced

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.1.4 from f-droid.org on cm9v7 for nexus s

Please provide any additional information below.

Hm, I'm tempted to say this is a problem with the browser program rather than
the input method. But, if it only happens when you switch between the DotDash
Utility layout and the DotDash main layout, and it doesn't happen if you press
* and then $ while staying on the Utility keyboard), then it's possible that
your browser program is picking up on some code trigger that happens when I
switch between layouts.

Does this happen when you switch between layouts on another IME that supports
multiple layouts? For instance, the Android Hacker's keyboard? (

Changing this one to low priority, because with the expanded punctuation Morse code groups in 1.1.7 I no longer use the utility keyboard.
