How to write text Vertically or in other words 90 degrees

I wanna put some labels on the sides of an image but text must be vertical (rotated 90degrees) Any idea how I can do that ?

I read that maybe rotating the entire image... then writing text horizontally.. then rotating the image back to original orientation.
