Qtractor is nice! I think Kepler34 added similar stuff in it's Qt port. Will keep it in mind; I really appreciate your suggestions!

Imho qtractor offer the most visually attractive pianoroll editor for notes and CC.

The ALSA MIDI, Song-to-Live mode, and JACK support issues are pretty well put to bed, but the other stiff still needs looking into. The tempo changes are tough, since I think they need extra calculation to deal with them. But I am having a nice Dogfish Head 90-minute IPA, and my thought processes are not too deep at this time. :-)
