Video device not working in Firefox or Chrome #121

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

I have webcamstudio 0.71 installed on Ubuntu 14.04.

After loading webcamstudio and selecting a source I went to a website that
allowed me to use my webcam such as tumblr. After selecting WSDevice as my
webcam device it did not load and no video was displayed.

The same behaviour happens in Cheese on Ubuntu except the WSDevice video device
doesn't appear as a selectable camera

Hi bv3000,
 try those steps:

First of all make sure Firefox or Chrome is completely closed and if not quit
it.

1) Run WS
2) Leave "v4l2loopback" at the top-right unchecked.
3) Push "SkyCam (Beta)" button always at the top-right and enter password when
requested.(This Activate the /dev/video21)
4) Push "WSVideoDevice" (In this way you redirect "WSVideoDevice" to
/dev/video21)
5) Play a stream.
6) Run Firefox or Chrome.
7) Go to the flash website and select "WSVideoDevice" in the options.
8) You will probably see your image in the browser flipped horizontally, but
from my tests seems that anyway it is correctly seen by the audience.
9) To safely deactivate SkyCam you have to quit Skype first, stop
"WSVideoDevice" clicking on it and finally stop "SkyCam" clicking on it and
giving required password. You will notice that /dev/video21 will gone.

In other words, a new /dev/video21 (SkyCam) is created.
Once pushed the default "WSVideoDevice" /dev/videox is piped into /dev/video21.
Finally you have two VirtualCams playing, but only /dev/video21 is seen from
the browsers and Skype.
About Cheese, at this very moment, under Ubuntu is not able to playback the
virtual camera (v4l2loopback device) but I can't do nothing about that and is
not a WebcamStudio issue.
You can use VLC to test virtual cameras outputs.

Thanks for the feedback.
karl.
