For evaluation methods that work with geodesic distance, a resolution of locations to their coordinates is required.
The plan was to do this via a lookup of the DBpedia URI.
There are a few challenges and considerations:
Harmonization between different DBpedia databases (i.e. languages) can be handled via the owl:sameAs relation
For larger locations such as countries, states or counties, DBpedia is often ambiguous as multiple geo-coordinates are stored. These correspond to different methods of determining a single point, either via geometric mean or the Capital location.
As there is some missing data, this needs to be done separately for consistency. Not every region has a (valid) Capital and taking the geometric mean requires external resources and is not guaranteed to be contained in the region.
