anyway to raise the abstraction level a little and reduce, say, the second part reporting our experiments.

e.g. is our stuff really a case study in Central Composite Design(CCD) [38], Orthogonal Array Sampling (OAS) [38]?

I have removed the questions from the introduction and moved it to another section called Motivation. So didn't really shorten it but reorganized it.
