Salvager not installing for Safari #246

Closed Lemonalicious closed 10 years ago

Lemonalicious commented 10 years ago

Hello! I have Safari 7.0.6 and OS X 10.9.4. I downloaded the extension: safari-latest-gokosalvager.safariextz (from https://www.gokosalvager.com/safari-latest-gokosalvager.safariextz)

However, I keep getting an error message (see image): Safari can't install this extension An error occurred while installing the extension "Goko Dominion Salvager"

I have been successful installing other extensions from third-party developers, like AdBlock, Franker, 1Password, etc. It's only the Goko Salvager extension that doesn't work for me. I've restarted Safari, cleared the cache, redownloaded the extension, restarted my computer, etc.

Please help.

safari extension install error

Thanks. I'll look into it.

FYI, your image doesn't show up for me. If it's just a picture of the error, though, then there's no need to post it again.

I get the same error, but I haven't a clue what the problem is. Does anyone know where Safari logs more detail when it can't install an extension?

michaeljb commented 10 years ago

I don't know where more info is logged, but when I add the extension under Develop > Show Extension Builder it tells me that there is no Safari Developer Certificate. I still have the appropriate cert files in my ~/.private/safari/ so I'm not sure what's up.

Maybe a new version of Safari changed how that stuff needs to be done or something? I'll try to look into it some more later tonight.

My Safari Developer Certificate expired in June. I got a new one and went through the steps to generate the files that get put in ~/.private/safari and I was able to install the latest beta build in Safari.

@aiannacc, I bet your cert expired as well (or did I give you my cert files? Either way...). I'll add a new document to the repo with instructions, rather than relying on a link in a comment. (that URL has already changed once, after all)

aiannacc commented 10 years ago

I have my own. I'm sure you're right that mine expired too. I'll replace mine and redeploy as soon as I can steel myself to deal with Apple's developer nonsense.

Thanks for the instructions. Can my repo have a copy of Safari.md too? ;)

Got a new certificate, deployed the new, signed version as v2.5.5.1. The new version installs without incident for me.

Thanks for that. I'd forgotten how much Apple hates me.

Thanks for fixing this! It's been working great so far! I'm not too crazy about the "end turn" and "end actions" buttons in the sidebar, but I'm getting used to it.
