The documentation README states that it is, but I've just found out about it and things were working fine without the note-core plugin.

Are some features only available if the note-core plugin is installed? Or is the README outdated?

Also, there is some feature overlap. eg, the Initial Content option from this plugin, always overrides the Note Template from the note-core plugin.
