I still have a few issues and dont know if they are normal for kernel 6.8 on ubuntu and are fixed in newer kernels.

aigilea commented 5 months ago

You have to patch 6.8 to get a properly working sound. Please read "How to fix the sound?" section of the readme.

* Laptop makes static noise if there is no other audio device connected even if the audio is muted. This also only happens when the backlight of the keyboard is off.

Did you find a solution to this? Have the exact same issue, 6.10.9 kernel on Debian Trixie (testing) Have tried symlinking to no avail Weird since this wasn't an issue on opensuse

Magnus-DM commented 1 month ago

No I did not, i still have the issue on ubuntu with 6.11

Interesting, I used to have the same issue but for me upgrading the kernel version did resolve it.

Which distro do you use?

Dadoum commented 1 month ago

I also have the same issue on Fedora. I checked that it has the latest version of the speaker firmware installed.

I can confirm that I have this issue on everything from kernel 6.8 to 6.11.3, on the following distros:

The volume of the static noise varies from one installation to the next, currently running 6.11.2 on Debian testing and it's only audible in a quiet room, previous Debian testing install I could hear it across the room Newest bios from HP, tried all the driver versions and different symlinks

All of a sudden the issue is fixed after some update after deleting and reinstalling some audio drivers. The mute led however always worked when on previous kernel with the static noise and when i updated to new kernel i had the problem this was always on. When i fixed the issue now both the static noise as well as the mute led are working so they might be related.

Can you check which kernel version you have? I still have the issue on debian

Then I have no idea, I'm on 6.11.4 and still have issues.

@Magnus-DM do you remember which drivers you uninstalled and reinstalled? I'm desperate here
