At some point it will need to be determined if this work is positively progress. I imagine the first milestone will be a working initramfs that can be swapped out on an existing OpenXT box. It will need to be determined when and how it can be moved over to the OpenXT github account.

That is probably a really good question for the mailing list (Ok not really a mailing list but google group). It would also be a good chance for you to explain what you are doing. Perhaps a wiki also that has some information on OE and how layers work (I know it would help me - I do not know OE well at all). It doesn't have to be big or complex - maybe some text with links. Anyway, just a thought.

I'd like to get some kind of working build running before putting much out there on the Google group. I don't want it to detract from the work on what is available now. I also don't want to be hosting a public meta-openxt layer over here under my account. Once we talk about it on the Google group with everybody else I would think it would be best to have a plan for moving it to the OpenXT account. Hopefully next week I can get a serial port connector for my board and actually see what is up with the initramfs. I've almost got a few more images completely building. Have a compile issue with the tools building.

I expect that you'll be hosting this repo for a while and I don't think that's a bad thing. Keeping the repos that are in the OpenXT org building is paramount and major overhauls like this to the build infrastructure is super disruptive. In the past upgrading OE has taken months of someone working full time and the resultant merge has been very much a "big-bang" event.

I'm just now coming up to speed on what you're doing so I may be completely wrong but I think getting a message out to the list describing what you're doing should be first and foremost. I don't think you'll be detracting from that work at all so long as you're clear about what it is you hope to accomplish and that it's a currently a WIP. IMHO this is one of the most important tasks in our queue and I'm keen to help out.

Ok, I will start putting together a message next week and get some wiki stuff up over here for those that want to help with the changes.
