[Enhancement] Global bookmark dialog #65

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
User story:

I read a lot of emagazines, bookmarking interesting articles I'd like to get to
later. Now it's a big chore to reopen each and every file to see if/what
bookmarks I made there.

What would be useful is a global bookmark list which allows to directly open
needed file and jump to a needed page.

What do you think about showing GotoPage dialog on file opening if some
bookmarks found for this file?
This ability can be configurable to switch it on or off

Well, I don't think that would be useful - when one opens a document, one
usually wants to read it, not some dialog being popped up in one's face ;-)
(cf. this with the concerns people express in other tickets regarding the fact
that they are shown history list, instead of the last read book itself - if
they switch from EBookDroid and then back to it).

IMHO, bookmark browsing (global or per-book) should be a separate
action/activity, explicitly called for by user.

I do not think that global bookmarks are useful. For example I do not need them.

Funky approach to feature requests ;-). Can't this ticket stay open to collect
people's opinions and see if someone else would go for implementing it?

Generally, you see this request now and then in any reader's support.
Unfortunately, to few people ever use bookmarks, and fewer still use them to
such an extent as to need this feature. So since users requesting this feature
are few in number, it will hardly be implemented in any of the readers...

I personally believe it'd be great to have such a "Bookmark overview", where I
could instantly see all the books which have at least one bookmark, and be able
to access them instantly, without even leaving the currently open file, and to
be able to search for text across all the bookmarks, again, without closing the
currently open book. Further still, being able to sync it to a PC (or at least
to export it) and to fix broken links (e.g. for books renamed\moved) would be
of value.

However, again, we (topic starter and me) are unlikely to ever see this feature
implemented due to low demand.

We set it as postponed. We do somewhen implement this I promise. We always set
wontfix if we wont work on request.

I read a daily newspaper exclusively with ebookdroid and set many bookmarks in
each of them for later reading. So I absolutely agree with the other foregoing
comments about a "bookmark list / overview" and hope such a feature is
implemented soon
