Full Screen option doesn't work on galaxy tab8.9 with android3.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.check the "full screen" option in the gui options
2.open a document
3.android status bar still present, no visible change in display

What is the expected output? 
Expect the document to be presented on the entire screen and the status 
var/task bar to disapear
What do you see instead?
Status bar is still present

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
android 3.1

What device are you using?
samsung galaxy tab 8.9
