One issue that came up during the 3/8 sensor box deployment is that the device becomes a lot more finnicky when the UPS is installed; the serial connection drops off, and it's hard to gauge whether or not logging and switching is working as expected. Because of the compressed timeline of the deployment, we opted to just go without the UPS, but this is not a permanent solution.
That being said, this is a somewhat popular product that seems to generally work, so it's probably the case that we can do something better on our side. We need to investigate the extent of this problem and then come up with a way to provide soft shutdown (likely using this product, but also in general). It might just be the case that we install the UPS last (following development).
