The non-test source contains many (relatively simple) TODOs that will make the source easier to debug and more user friendly to future team members. There's also probably some simple documentation work that's not explicitly marked but still worth doing (i.e. docstrings, etc.) worth doing to decrease that confusion as well.

Done on all buy serialdevices, will create issues for larger problems visible.

Finished serialdevices cleanup and also created several issues. Did not create specific PRs for these changes as they do not (or at least should not..) affect functionality. Further changes should use a more standard workflow. Closing this issue for now. Hopefully this will help the next person working on this!
