Add Social media listings data element #14

Item from I&R resource manager

This discussion about social media is making me think about the best way
to include this info in our resource database. Is there any discussion
about adding another official data element for a link to social media like
Twitter or Facebook? Some organizations in our database (especially
neighborhood improvement groups) are now using Facebook as their primary
web presence.

Thsi probably means allowing for the additional of a variety of different
online
address alternatives (e.g. Twitter URL, Facebook page, blogspot, etc.)

Could this just be allowing more than one "web address" with a "description"
field?

Yes ... that might be an easier way of doing that ...in fact, I am not sure
whether
a description field would be needed as the nature of the web addresses would
make it
self evident ... w.g. twitter.com/, facebook.com/, etc.

Maybe the current XML already allows for multiple web addresses and the issue
is
moot?

This should be made explicit in the schema. And the schema should be expanded
to allow adding an unlimited number of links to social networks (as the
inevitably will come and go). The elements should be available at any level
(Agency, Site, Service, ServiceSite) and should not be forced into a URI format
as some of them are not (e.g. Twitter handle). If the "Website" or "URL"
element in the schema does not currently have a Definition or Name attribute,
it should be added and the documentation updated to indicate the field into
which the indication of which social media network it points to (Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc).

Votes were for making this change, and in version 3.1.

Neil, currently there is a "Note" element for URLs. Does this satisfy the
description requirement you mentioned for urls? I'll add a separate social
media type, that is is not necessarily a url.

per 3/22/2012 workgroup discussion, decided to rename Note to Description for
consistency and change from SocialMedia to more generic InternetResource with
urls only. A handle would have to then be part of the url.

also made it a top level type and part of Agency, Site, SiteService
