I got a wii u at home and i heard it can't read dvd on the new wii u disc 
drive. I was thinking can it read dvd on external dvd by connect on usb port on 
wii u

If used from within Linux it should. You just have to make sure that you have 
the appropriate DVD libs installed (non-free/proprietary, can't remember which) 
to actually watch them with mplayer, vlc, etc. Also, I'm not sure if it would 
run great without GPU acceleration (GX).
