WWTP Hydrodynamics Comparison | Weekly Research Update

This week I ran some tests that will allow us to compare LiveOcean hydrodynamics with and without WWTPs. First, I ran a one month test (February 2021) that includes all TRAPS except Birch Bay WWTP and Oak Harbor Lagoon WWTP. Then, I repeated the run but removed all WWTPs. Though I haven’t yet conducted a thorough comparison between these two runs, I have already observed that WWTPs cause strange hydrodynamic behavior. While these models were running I generated a couple figures that we discussed in last week’s meeting: WWTP depth vs. average discharge to see whether Birch Bay or Oak Harbor Lagoon WWTP are an extreme Distance from WWTP to nearest coastal cell vs. average discharge to see how much WWTPs would change i

This does seem strange! I think it would be useful to make difference plots u_WWTP - u_noWWTP etc. Maybe this means that there is an issue with how they are being represented (that you can fix), or maybe it is an underlying issue with how bottom sources are done in ROMS. If we decide it is the latter, my guess is that we should think of a workaround.
