Weekly research updates | Weekly Research Update

I did not get nearly as much done this week as I wanted to get done, but I thought it would still be best to share what I have so far so I can get feedback.

Aurora, nice write-up! Regarding timescales, I don't think Buckingham's Pi has anything to offer here. It could be that a formal analysis involving timescales would not be much use in the realistic case because there are so many factors influencing things at once. It could be better suited to analysis of an idealized model like Lily's. But I do encourage you to make a little table of important timescales, e.g. how long does it take for a large or small particle to reach the bottom, and how does this compare to the timescale of water column respiration or phytoplankton growth? It is also a good idea to be aware of how much nitrogen is in each of the pools. Knowing what is big and what is small is the first step in understanding. There are many gems in this regard in Jilian's budget paper.

I love the new model-data comparison plots. Very effective presentation.

Thanks Parker! I'll spend some time making a list of relevant timescales. Trying to untangle all of the simultaneous processes, and their interactions, has been making my head spin! Looking at some simple calculations should be a helpful first step.
