Physics and Biology correlation | Weekly Research Update

During my thesis defense, Alex noticed that it seems like inlets with large “Exchange Flow & Vertical Transport” terms also had large “Photosynthesis & Consumption” terms.

Interesting. Could be worth putting in the paper. Results are more important than an arbitrary figure count. There are three things that contribute to the photosynthesis and consumption term: (i) photosynthesis - likely small in the deep layer, (ii) respiration of particles that fell from above - these would be sensitive to the rate of nutrients brought in by exchange, and (iii) respiration of particles that came in with the exchange flow. In your budget can you distinguish (ii) from (iii)?

As far as I know, JGR-Ocean doesn't have limitations for the total word counts and figure numbers -- only limit the word number for abstract and key points. There might be an additional charge for extra words & figures but shouldn't be a big issue.

To distinguish different particles (i.e. sinking detirus?), we could constribut budgets for LdetritusN and SdetritusN, but maybe too much coding for this question...(?)
