this PR contains the combined modifications of Erik and myself. I successfully tested them with OJS 3.3.
This should be the starting point for our further development as discussed in Copenhagen.
Once merged I would like to invite all members of the Copenhagen group to an open discussion. Could we do this on your repos discussion page?
