API Request #7

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Created a Video Call Widget and embedded it on a webpage.
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I'd like Moderation to work in the Video Call Widget, it does not seem to
work.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows 7 64 bit. Chrome Browser and a clear cache.

Please provide any additional information below.
If Moderation can't work in the embedded Video Call Widgets, it would be
sweet if there was an API parameter that muted each new person as they are
added to the call.

The behavior that I see around this works in this fashion: we have a core
group of people that understand how Tokbox works and are quite versed at
muting their microphones and unmuting their microphones when it's their
turn to talk. We are always inviting new people into the chat, and when
these new people arrive they don't understand how to use headphones or mute
their microphones so they cause echoes for everyone on the call. If there
was a default option to mute all new participants, this would give the new
people a little bit of buffer and they wouldn't degrade the experience for
everyone. When they get a little more versed in how to use their video and
microphone settings, they will naturally figure out how to unmute the
microphone. In this way, they can join in on the video call and be a part
of it, but won't mess up the flow of the conference that's already in
progress.

I was hoping that the moderation would apply to the video call widgets, but
in my first couple of tests this doesn't seem to be the case. The embedding
function is kind of important, because there are several moderators in my
organization that would not really be good at generating a new call from
within TokBox each time but are definitely good enough that they can go to
a special webpage where I've embedded the call and then joined and direct
the call.

Thank you so much for the work that you do! Tokbox is the best service out
there for this kind of thing now and we have tried pretty much every other
service on the market, so we are committed to sticking with you guys!

Hi,

Does anyone think this is a good idea?

This is an excellent idea. We are in the process of porting the Moderation
functionality into the API as we speak. I
will therefore focus on that as opposed to giving a short term solution.

Sorry for the delayed response.

Hi,

Thank you for the response.

Having the moderation functionality in the API wouldn't actually solve this
issue as
I understand it. We have 6-7 people who use the embedded chartroom as chatroom
managers, but we would only have 1 account with the moderation functionality,
so
there is that limitation. Also, these managers aren't experts at managing the
Tokbox
software, so they might not be able to figure it out even if all 7 accounts
could
manage the same embedded chat.

The real issue is new people coming into the chat who also are first time users
of
Tokbox. They are watching the video and click "join" without really knowing
about
the camera and the mic, etc. So their mic go live and they break out the
Doritos or
start talking to the screen, unaware that they are broadcasting. In a worst
case,
they cause echo for the whole chat.

So, a feature that muted people on entry would be different because my
understanding
of the moderation feature is that the moderator still has to mute someone on
entry.

Does that make sense?

Thanks!
