First attempt to cross-validate FLAT output was completed today. We used HarvestCoice 10km harvested area for maize and down-scaled it to 1km resolution. Three possible interpretations were tested against each other. Namely,
The third option seems the most reasonable. As per aggregated HarvestCoice data, Zambezia has an area of 290,000 ha harvested maize. By aggregating the down-scaled data (as per interpretation 3) the total harvested area for maize was estimated at 285,000 ha. The process was tested for single crop; multi-crop results (#17) will be tested in next iteration.
Note! Initial testing was conducted on default FLAT datasets for Buenos Aires showing similar results.
Script on cross-validation now uploaded on post-processing sub-folder; insights from the cross-validation process will be documented in the final report.
