The 'delete-read-articles-on-quit' option is not an alternative either, cause then newsbeuter will just keep downloading the same articles over and over again (if they are recent enough obviously).

@akrennmair, I need your input on this.

As far as I can understand, this setting never even worked—I can reproduce this bug even on 5806ecc (the commit where you introduced the feature). Am I misunderstanding the purpose of the setting?

Dropping the milestone as no progress is possible with this issue ATM.
