see.

Scenario Description 1.

Codelink Agent is contracted to deliver a worm into company server. (To collect data, money, programs, etc.)

How Scenario Might Function In-Game

Option A) The worm is software that the player implants or uploads manually via hacking into server. Either the mission directive dictates a hiding spot or the player is free to choose the location with higher payouts for finding well hidden locations. (i.e. stashing the worm in higher security areas such as archives or municipal records)

Option B) The worm is a script that the player uploads by way of the Diagnostic Module. In this case the worm script functions more like a bypass script where a higher chance of a successful upload depends on how low the player reduces the health of the server’s components.
A successful mission means the worm is uploaded and active.

Part 2 of Scenario.

The client wants/demands a status update on the progress of the worm. At this point the worm has not finished its job but the client is willing/desperate enough to pay for an appraisal of the situation. The Codelink Agent is hired to track down and retrieve a sample of the worm for verification. Acquiring special scanning programs is necessary.

How Scenario Might Function In-Game

The worm is undergoing a ‘burrow’ phase and has finished acquiring its target. Tagging it and dispersing the information to other servers, it tunnels past the secure checkpoints to blend in as regular data for an undisclosed amount of time before repeating the process. A server by server, file by file search would prove futile as there is no software sensitive enough to find it. The software needed would perform along the lines of the Server Scan but have the capacity to search through all the servers in a satnet and identify which ones have a high volume of tagged data.

An easy design to model the ‘Satnet Scan’ might be to copy the database view from the GPS Connection Module only with this program showing a highlighted gradient. The sites showing little or no ‘worm bits’ appear unmarked while heavily infested servers are deeper shades of highlighted color, possibly a few set to pulsate making them the biggest deposits.

Once connected to the server two options could manifest. Either allow the ‘Satnet Scan’ to give the location of the tagged data on the server or create a new piece of software such as ‘worm scanner’ and have it attach to the browser module, maybe give it an audio/visual cue (like warmer/colder) to indicate if one’s position in the server is close to the target . Upon finding the proper file server/archive allow the scanner a seek option to dig up the sample of wormed data.

Part 3 of Scenario.

The worm has kept on in its collecting and the client is ready for the payload but there’s a problem. It seems that gathering the sample has caused permutation’s in the worm’s delivery codes. It can’t be recalled and is slowly deteriorating. The Codelink Agent has a limited time to catch enough of the worm before it disappears completely.

How Scenario Might Function In-Game

Two more options here. A) The player uses the ‘Satnet Scan’ and ‘worm scanner’ to hunt for the bits of data and fill enough of a quota for the mission or, B) use a new script or software that traps all forms of worm tunneling and gathers a majority to a single location on the server.
This ‘tunnel filler’ could be setup and run while connected on a server and, used in tandem with the ‘worm scanner,’ the errant data can be collected and sent to the client for a completed mission.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A possible mini-game for the new software could be a round of tetris-like shape building challenges or a matching puzzle like Connect Four. In the case where time is less of a factor like a server scan the games could be more mentally challenging whereas previous software was more action oriented and under an active trace.
