Roadmap

In the following particular order:

[ ] Use "local storage" backend with BrowserFS
[ ] Use "zip" backend with BrowserFS
[ ] Add (write?) "minio" backend to BrowserFS
[ ] Add (write?) "webdav" backend to BrowserFS

Local Storage

Keep using Local Storage as the simplest read/write storage but with BrowserFS.

ZIP

has no external dependency, which makes it a very good fallback strategy while saving and restoring projects.

MinIO:

has a very easy to use command line server for local file storage support: minio server ./mydata
has a JS client: https://www.npmjs.com/package/minio
can use Nginx as a reverse proxy, thus allows adding a self-hosted server support
has S3 protocol support that makes it possible to use with 3rd party file servers.
is scalable

WebDAV:

has standalone server options for local file storage support, like wsgidav or hacdias/webdav.
has a JS client: https://www.npmjs.com/package/webdav
is already compatible with http protocol to allow self hosted server support
has already compatible with many 3rd party file servers (where some of them allows self-hosting), such as OwnCloud
