Remove Survey language #2934

Closed janagombitova closed 2 years ago

Based on https://github.com/akvo/akvo-product-design/issues/173

Context

When creating a Flow survey the users type the questions in any language they want and can then create a translation of their first language in the Manage translations page. However, as a setting on the survey we have Language where English is default, Spanish and French are the selectable options. This default language is then shown on the app when selecting a translation.

The survey language first shows in the list of surveys. Then it shows in the survey editor, with English set as default and Spanish and French as possible options to select. In the app it shows in the Translations options pop up.

Suggestions

I would suggest to fully remove this survey language item for the following reasons:

I would fully remove:

We still need to handle the default language in the app in relation to translations. In cases where a form is translated, Alphonso needs to be able to select from the original language (default language, master language) and the translations (keep only the translations, have all languages visible, select only one). How will we allow him to do this? How will we call the original/master/default language.

Another reason why to remove the Survey language just came in via support. Link: /admin/conversations/akvoflow-support-request-number-190604-from-matheus-dot-denardo-at-wwf-dot-org

Issue

You cannot have the survey in let's say Slovak and make a translation in English.

Steps for recreating the situation:

  1. create a form with a few questions in any language but English (e.g. Dutch)
  2. go to Manage Translations and select English > the error will occur
  3. changing the language in Survey Basics will not help > after selecting, for instance, Spanish > save > refresh > the language is automatically set back to English
