Currently we're thinking of providing a bundle when installing the BIRT all-in-one designer which would include some sample data & a standard template/s to get started.
SSH to the database server would no longer be required.
Templates could be modified or created against this sample & tested fully when uploaded to the ReportServer which would possibly include datasource/s as a parameter for selection.
