Tap to click unreliable #10

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. use the trackpad to put the cursor over an icon/window/menu etc.
2. Tap.

What netbook are you using this on?
Mini 10v

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Tap or double-tap should click or double click.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RC4 10.5.8

Please provide any additional information below.
At first I thought the trackpad wasn't registering the taps, then it seemed
that the drivers are expecting the tap to come in exactly the same location
that you stopped your finger while moving the cursor, but it just seems tap
to click is unreliable and it sometimes takes two or three taps before it
will register regardless of the method I use. I haven't come up with 100%
reliable steps to reproduce this behavior, but I have a habit of moving the
cursor, lifting my finger and then tapping in a place that isn't exactly
the same, but relatively close to the position from which it was first
lifted. The drivers don't seem to register this more often than not
(perhaps the driver thinks I'm continuing the drag?).

I did a complete reinstall of 10.5.8 using rc4's netbook bootmaker/installer
and the
issues I was experiencing have been lessened. Now instead of 30% of my clicks
actually registering it seems to be more like 70%. I do get the occasional
ignored
click, requiring me to tap again, but the frequency has decreased to a point
where I
can use the synaptic driver without pulling my hair out.

I'm thinking there was a conflict with a previous trackpad driver as I did have
the
dellEFI1.1 driver installed as well as previous meklort drivers which I
installed/uninstalled via the trackpad driver installer I found on the dell mini
forums, however this wouldn't explain why the problem still persists, just at a
much
more tolerable frequency.

The 10v touchpad doesn't really work well with the drivers included in
NetbookInstaller. I'll probably revert to the
ones from DellEFI. I may have it so you can do a couple of things like press a
key to change to scroll mode or
similar, but that wont happen too soon.
