Since January 2020, we have been organising and hosting sessions to discuss important topics that are at the intersection of humanities and data science. Members of this discussion/interest group are from The Alan Turing Institute, University College London, British Library and their friends or colleagues. As we gain momentum in this project and test different formats to run our discussion sessions, we understand that there might be more people who would like to get involved in the discussions or read notes from these meetings.

New proposal:

Participants in this discussion group come from The Alan Turing Institute, other UK institutions, and colleagues around the world. Our ambitions are to:

• build community among early career researchers working at the intersection of the humanities and data science, especially by connecting with strong Digital Humanities communities across the UK
• host open conversations about challenges and opportunities at the junction of these fields

As we gain momentum and test different formats to run our discussion sessions, we understand that there might be more people who would like to get involved in the discussions or read notes from these meetings.

Following on from our convo about using the Turing Way twitter account, I propose adding a line about how this is a collab with Turing Way. @fedenanni and @malvikasharan - does that make sense? if so, what language would you suggest for that?

Maybe adding arts to the description too? @kmcdono2 + I had an offline conversation about it and I think it'd make a neat little addition to "the humanities" in the description as the arts are not always thought of as part of the humanities/DH intersection.

Participants in this discussion group come from The Alan Turing Institute, other UK institutions, and colleagues around the world. At the Turing, this group is organised collaboratively between the Humanities & Data Science Special Interest Group and The Turing Way. Our ambitions are to:

• build community among early career researchers working at the intersection of the humanities, arts, and data science, especially by connecting with existing Digital Humanities communities across the UK
• host open conversations about challenges and opportunities at the junction of these fields

As we gain momentum and test different formats to run our discussion sessions, we understand that there might be more people who would like to get involved in the discussions or read notes from these meetings.
