Research journals that publish on databases/data sets

A publicaton about data journals: https://asistdl.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/asi.23358 A blog containing a growing list of data journals: https://mlibrarydata.wordpress.com/2014/05/09/data-journals/

Journal of Open Archaeology Data - https://openarchaeologydata.metajnl.com/

The Journal of Open Archaeology Data (JOAD) features peer reviewed data papers describing archaeology datasets with high reuse potential. We work with a number of specialist and institutional data repositories to ensure that the associated data are professionally archived, preserved, and openly available. Equally importantly, the data and the papers are citable, and reuse is tracked. JOAD publishes data papers, which do not contain research results but rather a concise description of a dataset, and where to find it

Data - https://www.mdpi.com/journal/data Data (ISSN 2306-5729) is a peer-reviewed open access journal on data in science, with the aim of enhancing data transparency and reusability. The journal publishes in two sections: a section on the collection, treatment and analysis methods of data in science; a section publishing descriptions of scientific and scholarly datasets (one dataset per paper). The journal is published monthly online by MDPI.

DataBase - https://academic.oup.com/database

Impact Factor 2.593, 5 year Impact Factor 3.660

Database: The Journal of Biological Databases and Curation provides an open access platform for the presentation of novel ideas in database research surrounding biological information, and aims to help strengthen the bridge between database developers, curators, and users.

The journal will publish:

CODATA Science Journal - https://datascience.codata.org/

The CODATA Data Science Journal is a peer-reviewed, open access, electronic journal, publishing papers on the management, dissemination, use and reuse of research data and databases across all research domains, including science, technology, the humanities and the arts. The scope of the journal includes descriptions of data systems, their implementations and their publication, applications, infrastructures, software, legal, reproducibility and transparency issues, the availability and usability of complex datasets, and with a particular focus on the principles, policies and practices for open data.

Biodiversity Data Journal - https://bdj.pensoft.net/

Biodiversity Data Journal (BDJ) is a community peer-reviewed, open access, comprehensive online platform, designed to accelerate publishing, dissemination and sharing of biodiversity-related data of any kind. All structural elements of the articles – text, morphological descriptions, occurrences, data tables etc. – will be treated and stored as data, in accordance with the Data Publishing Policies and Guidelines of Pensoft Publishers.

Originality: Papers and associated data should be sufficiently novel and contribute to a better understanding of the topic under scrutiny. Please consider the examples below to judge if your manuscript might be suitable for BDJ:

Data in Brief - https://www.journals.elsevier.com/data-in-brief

Data in Brief provides a way for researchers to easily share and reuse each other's datasets by publishing data articles that:

Scientific Data (Nature) - https://www.nature.com/sdata/about

Scientific Data is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal for descriptions of scientifically valuable datasets, and research that advances the sharing and reuse of scientific data. Scientific Data primarily publishes Data Descriptors, a new type of publication that provides detailed descriptions of research datasets, including the methods used to collect the data and technical analyses supporting the quality of the measurements. Data Descriptors focus on helping others reuse data, rather than testing hypotheses, or presenting new interpretations, methods or in-depth analyses.

Data Papers - https://www.gbif.org/data-papers

GBIF—the Global Biodiversity Information Facility—is an international network and data infrastructure funded by the world's governments and aimed at providing anyone, anywhere, open access to data about all types of life on Earth.
