Agree on away days' scope and participants #71

Open gmingas opened 4 years ago

We have funding for three away days (one in every 6-month period) and we need to decide what we will use them for.

Options include (but are not limited to):

martintoreilly commented 4 years ago

The budget for one of these must be spent by 31 Mar 2020 or we lose it. Do we have ideas for something we can organise in the next 6 weeks?

gmingas commented 4 years ago

I don't know if this was posted elsewhere but we had a first discussion on this on Monday and the 19th of March was proposed as a potential date for an away day. The proposal is to gather the whole project team (including Leeds people) and work together on finalising the pipeline and the demo in prep for the Belfast event. We could travel to Leeds for this.

I guess this needs to be discussed with Leeds asap as it is relatively short notice.

I talked to Kirstie (TPS programme lead) and she is fine with us carrying unspent budget for the away days to next financial year, so the 31 March deadline is no longer there. She did give a strong steer for us to have this expenditure planned by end of March though.

I like the idea of a pre Belfast team working session. Let's include an overnight stay and some social / team bonding time. Would it be worth inviting the full SPENSER team to all our some of this now that we are starting to work with them?

Kirstie was also very supportive of using some of our away day budget to run a synthetic data workshop.

Alison and I could join 1-3 April, but not beforehand unfortunately.

martintoreilly commented 4 years ago

The SSI Collaborations Workshop is 31 March and 1st April, with an optional hack day on 2nd April

martintoreilly commented 4 years ago

What would be the plan for a post-SSI team away day? When will the post docs for Alison and Nick M's projects be in place?

To get the most of of a synthetic data workshop in terms of ensuring people get enough notice to attend and getting event support here, I think we'd be looking at 3-4 months lead time (i.e June or late May).

gmingas commented 4 years ago

This is likely to be delayed due to DECOVID.

gmingas commented 3 years ago

This could be organised virtually around the beginning of 2021 when the whole team (including Oscar) is in place.

A long meeting to discuss direction could also be help earlier if needed (preferably October/November?)

Not sure what happens to the funding if we do not use it due to Covid.
