Schedule

My schedule is a bit wonky:

I'm arriving in London at 11am on Monday the 12th (the week before our big meeting).

Interests / projects

My background is in cognitive neuroscience, and I've been a dev with the MNE-python team for many years now. I'm interested in applying machine learning to electrophysiology data, and open source analytics around these questions. Also interested in neuroscience more generally.

Currently, I'm a core developer on the Jupyter project. The major projects I work on are:

More generally, I'm interested in building core infrastructure ("building blocks" if you will) that is open-source, community driven, and has a number of potential applications. I'd love to find scientific or educational use-cases to drive more development for tools in the JupyterHub/Binder ecosystem, or for analytics packages such as MNE.

I'm also very interested in questions around sustainability in the open-source and technical development world for the sciences. Such as:

If any of that interests you, I'd love to chat!

Hi Chris. We are free both those days and are really interested in hearing more about what you do. We can arrange a schedule closer to the time. Cheers, Matt.

Some of the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics people are visiting the Turing on the Wednesday before - including Phil Waywell - so I could link you up if that was useful to you.

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

@jamespjh for sure, that'd be great!

@ma595 awesome, shall we find a time to chat? or are you just going to be around more generally?

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

@ma595 I should mention I can also come up a day earlier to meet as well.

@jamespjh do you know if RSE will cover an airbnb or hotel for the Mon/Tues/Wed prior to the week?

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

friendly ping @jamespjh - feel free to put me in touch with Phil and I can work on setting up a time to meet from there. I updated the top-level comment with a more clear schedule, please feel free to suggest anybody that might be an interesting conversation. I'm an open book :-D

@ma595 are you all still interested in meeting up Thurs and Fri? I could also be in Cambridge on Wednesday if that works better for you (I'm in Oxford Monday and Tuesday)

ma595 commented 6 years ago

Yes, we are still interested in meeting up with you on Thursday. Unfortunately, Friday isn't possible now. How about we arrange to meet at 11am and then go for lunch at the West Cambridge site? We are based in the Roger Needham Building. Looking forward to having a chat and hearing more about what you do.

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

sounds good, I'll plan on grabbing on meeting you in Cambridge on Thursday AM then. Is it possible to get up there so early if I'm taking the train from London?

ma595 commented 6 years ago

Yes, it should be fairly easy to get to Cambridge. Trains take about 50mins from London. If it's more convenient, you could always drop by later in the afternoon before your eLife meeting? We're quite flexible tomorrow.

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

Sounds great - it sounds like eLife is actually all on Friday, and I'm actually going to take the train to Cambridge tonight instead of tomorrow, so I'll be free whenever you all are tomorrow morning :-) --

@ma595 I'm in Cambridge now! Will post up at a coffee shop and work a bit until you all are free! Let me know what your timing looks like (and whereabouts is the institute?)

ma595 commented 6 years ago

We're free from 10:30am onwards, so please come whenever it's convenient for you. You're welcome to join us for lunch, if you can. We're part of University Information Services within the Roger Needham Building, located on the West Cambridge Site.

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

would love to join for lunch - I'll come by around 11am or so!

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

anything I should know in order to get in the building? or can I just come in and ask for the RSE group?

ma595 commented 6 years ago

Just head to reception and ask for Jeffrey Salmond. See you soon :)

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

perfect, walking over from city center in a minute, I think I'll be there around 11:15am

ma595 commented 6 years ago

Actually, just post here. That'll be easier.

choldgraf commented 6 years ago
