@TomRedfern I would be interested in visiting LIDA for a day, if you think it will work out on a short notice. I will be happy to see how the institute is structured, how collaborations work within and outside the university, talk to some of the RSEs, and share how things work at the eScience Institute. Let me know if it looks plausible.
@valentina-s Thanks for your message. It would be great to welcome you to Leeds and LIDA. If you would like to visit Leeds on the Friday (23rd) this would give me time to organise a day for you. Provisionally, we could aim for the following - 11:00 Arrival at LIDA (TR greets) 11:00 - 11:20 tour of the institute 11:20 - 12:20 first meeting with RSEs/researchers 12:45 - 13:45 lunch in Leeds city centre / meet with LiDAs Research and Innovation Development Manager Phil Waywell 14:00 - 16:00 further meetings with RSEs/researchers 16:00 Depart LIDA
It is a little difficult for me to provide details on who we can meet with next week as a number of colleagues are currently unavailable as they are striking this week. However, if you would like to come up to Leeds , let me know and I will start trying to organise some meetings for us. Thanks, Tom
@TomRedfern Thanks Tom, I will be happy to visit. I will grab some train tickets (I know it is pretty late...). My interests are pretty broad so I will be glad to meet with whomever is around.
@valentina-s Brilliant - I'll start putting the details together. I think you have already been in contact with my colleague Joanna Leng, so we can meet with her as well. I'm not sure where you'll be travelling from or to, but if you require any accommodation here in Leeds, let me know and I will ask around for hotel recommendations. If you are happy to bring your lightning talk slides with you, we could use those at the start of each meeting to break the ice with colleagues - just an idea. I look forward to meeting you on Monday in London and to welcoming you to Leeds next week.
My background is in applied math and statistics, and I currently work on projects in oceanography(acoustics), neuroscience(ecog), and image processing(microscopic). I am interested in challenges with spatio-temporal data, handling large data sets, online and out-of-core algorithms.
I also like to discuss data scientist/rse careers, structure of data science institutes/programs, and data science education. Hope to learn interesting ideas of what has worked across the ocean.
Schedule so far:

Wednesday (March 21) - AIDA workshop
Thursday/Friday (March 22-23) - visit a Data Science Institute?
