3 years ago - Social media account on its own doesn't have much value. But Turing or others at Turing that retweet are those who help build community.
- One thing that does help: simply ask others to help retweet and be open about asking them to help you build followers
- Someone needs to take charge of social media. If there are multiple people, it can be nobody feels responsible to tweet. We can swap over week to week.
- You can even invite in others to do a twitter take-over, special guests we can bring in
- Use Tweetdeck to help share access to Twitter
- Newsletters may not work so well, but can be useful as a report, perhaps better for the team. Approx 50% may open the newsletter, the rest don't even bother.
- Define the purpose of your account:
- To encourage contributors
- To encourage readers
- To acknowledge and promote the work of contributors
- Don't be shy to self promote
- Define the purpose clearly
- Twitter can help give you the stats on followers, engagement etc. may help if resources are needed
- Show who is tweeting when tweeting, not some anon account
- People tend to engage more on Slack

- Needed a brand, a logo
- Use vision, mission statement, etc
- Web page is useful, not required
- Use existing story as a show and tell, an example rather than the mission, is useful to bring people in
- Tag people in tweets and ask to help retweet
- Go to comms, but say we made and own this thing, but can they help

- Can we unveil the story piece by piece, show each step, stimulate discussion
