Hi @LydiaFrance, @Iain-S and @myyong.

I am putting a proposal for Google Summer of Code (GSoC), to get an intern build on your work. In this PR, I am making changes that will allow me to share some development done here for the GSoC candidates.

Of course, this can change when merging to TTW repository, or organising as a Pythin Package.
