Navigation uses Fathoms not Nautical Miles for distance #17

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
When in Navigation mode and Nautical Miles is selected in Units all distances
to Waypoints are in Fathoms.

While a fathom can be a measure of distance, in nautical terms a fathom is a
measure of depth of water.

It would be more correct if distance was measured in nautical miles/decimal
nautical miles.

Keep up the good work. Androzic gets better with each update.

Cheers,

Jon

Can you clarify? Should I just write 0.001 nm? Or what?

In general I use smaller distance units when the waypoint is in 2000 units of
measure, otherwise I switch to bigger distance units.

A fathom is not a measure of distance in marine navigation. It is only used as
a measure of depth of water on older charts and older depth sounders.

Using a distance of .001nm is correct.

cheers,

Jon
