7 years ago (by joh) I agree, the icon needs to be improved, but I don't feel the icons you suggested are appropriate. I will try to get the gnome art team to help me design some "Tangofied" icons.

Yes, I agree the icon sticks out. However, it's up to each theme to provide appropriate monochrome versions of icons in the panel.
Tell me, does alarm clock install it icons to the /usr/share/icons/
directory, and if so what name does its icon go by? I may have a bash at making an elementary monochrome icon for personal use.
The icons are installed to the default /usr/share/icons/hicolor directory, and can easily be overridden by each theme. The icon names are 'alarm-clock' and 'alarm-clock-triggered'.
If you create some mono icons, consider adding them to the blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/alarm-clock/+spec/better-icons

I've taken the time to create some alarm-clock icons for the elementary icon theme (both light and dark panel versions), I'll add them to the above blueprint as requested. However, whilst reviewing the elementary icon theme spec, it dawned on me that alarm-clock is missing a few indicator icons. The following would be nice:
alarm-clock (the application icon, already exists) alarm-clock-noset (a faded or hollow panel icon, indicating that alarm-clock is running but that no alarms are currently set) alarm-clock-set (a full shade panel icon, indicating that alarm-clock is running and that at least one alarm is currently set) alarm-clock-active (essentially the same as alarm-clock-triggered, indicating that an alarm is currently triggered) alarm-clock-error (may not be strictly necessary, but could be used to indicate errors such as missing audio files etc...)

This is a great idea! I've added them to the blueprint.
Would you be interested in creating the some new official icons for Alarm Clock?
I would like to make a suggestion that the applet would follow the system icon scheme I have set up. It could have used the stock_alarm.svg / clock.svg / appointment.svg / sleep.svg icons or at least one from the Gnome Colors, Tango or Mist packs. Now the icon is really standing out. :)
