Unsure how to Run Software #5

Hi @alb0, I thought that this was one of the coolest projects at the Polar CyberInfrastructure Hackathon we put on in NYC back in Noveember. I am REALLY keen to use this code as a basis for generating 3D representations of SCAG (Snow Coverage and Grain Size) for stuff like Modis data and also Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper data. Is it possible for you to provide me with a run down of how to use the software e.g. how i invoke it? Thank you very much if this is possible.

hi lewis,

thanks for your email! i'd be happy to help you with this. i've been meaning to play around with landsat and modis data as well, but have put this project on hold in recent months. i'm excited to see what you make!

which software are you referring to? honestly, it's more of a workflow than anything else, and very dependent on the input dataset (both file format, which looks like it's a tiff so it's okay, and the actual physical quantity it measures) and desired output. i am attaching the poster i made for agu which is essentially a flowchart (all the blank space is where i velcro'd the models onto the poster). here http://bogomi.tumblr.com/cpf is a link to my sort-of-website, which also has an overview of the project.

finally, your message is perfectly timed- i'm on my way to visit uc irvine next week and could potentially meet to talk about this. alternatively, i'm available on skype or phone.

hope this helps! alex

We have a bunch of use cases here for something nifty like 3D printing of DEM's and then snow coverage. A whole bunch. VIIRS, MODIS and LANDSAT are just some of the jobs we determine SCAG for here @JPL and we would be VERY interested in getting this set up as a side project of sorts.

which software are you referring to?

I am referring to the code that is in the repository. I mean, how do I use it? Lets start from the very beginning and (if you are game) document on the Guthub repos, exactly how one would produce a physical printed product from some data product.

Sounds great. I am very keen to hear more about the logic here and how you've worked things through up until now.

OK

Dynamite, thank you

It helps a bunch. I am in Pasadena so although we will be a distance apart there is no reason why we cannot do a GHangout for a while to talk through some of the stuff above. This is of course i you have time away from your work to talk. Thanks Alex. Lewis

BTW, that website is dynamite. I absolutely love it.
