The italic message under the first one is essential, but it is still not very straight-forward that one should use those zones to explore, maybe a title before the zone like "Explore the three main categories".
Also a mouseover legend on the zones would definitely help.
PS: the issues I had in the past finding it quite slow on FF seems to have disappeared, no problem seen anymore
